Planning and Listed Building Approval has finally been awarded for the conversion and extension to the Barber Surgeon's Hall in Summerhill area of Elswick.
This John Dobson building was originally built to house the dissecting room and museum for the purpose of training surgeons. The building was subsequently altered and extended to create St. Paul's School.
The building has stood vacant since it became surplus to requirements when the school moved into its new building on the adjacent site.
Nicholson Nairn Architects have worked with the current owner on a number of proposed uses over the last few years. Obtaining permission for altering this architecturally important building was not without its problems! However, a joint venture of NNA, our client and the professional services of Maria Ferguson (Planning Consultant) delivered the desired result.
