Case Study: Northumbrian Timber Clad Stone Cottage

September 22, 2017

What do you need to transform your home? Is it possible to alter and extend a small two-bedroom cottage into a large three-bedroom family home? That's the brief Nicholson Nairn were given, to alter and extend the traditional Northumbriam terraced cottage, as shown above. In addition, the client wished to see a more contemporary design solution, reflecting the lifestyle of the family.

With an adventurous client, who was very interested in the design process, Nicholdon Nairn were able to explore many options with the designs reflecting the images and mood boards supplied to them.*

Combing a mixture of timber cladding, stonework and large areas of glazing Nicholson Nairn were able to produce a scheme that, not only reflected the client's needs, but a proposal that they thought would be acceptable in Planning terms.

The solution was a comibination of single and two storey extensions that wrapped around and complimented the existing stone dwelling. The scale of the individual elements reflecting the modest cottage and the materials being sympathetic with the host building and the woodland which surrounds the plot.

A scheme that the client was delighted with and has drawn the attention of many members of the public who walk past the gate and offer their compliments.
