Peter Elder, Senior Architect at Nicholson Nairn, recently completed RIBA Course ‘Conservation of Materials’. This course covered an in depth discussion on tradition lead and stonework detailing and repair in historic and listed buildings. The course was lead by an experience Conservation Architect, David Watkins of DHW Architects, and covered the relevant planning legislation around conservation works. Details of previous projects, including Lyme Park, Cheshire and ‘The Poem’ at Bodnant Gardens were also discussed.
The day finished with practical demonstrations of traditional stonework carving, the repair of casement windows and plaster detailing by conservation tradesmen.
Peter has completed a number of specialist Architectural Conservation course of the last few years as part of Nicholson Nairn’s expansion into this specialised field of work, having worked on a wide variety of listed buildings within his career.
